Web Uploads

When you are ready to start adding media from a local computer to the portal via the website's upload capabilities, here are some screenshots and tips that can help you on your way. Also, learn more about transcoding.

There are two ways to begin a web upload. First, you can choose single or multiple files from your computer file picker by clicking "Upload Files" in the media gallery, or you can drag and drop single or multiple files into the gallery.

Subsequent the file selection method chosen, you will be presented with a pop up window. The upload pop up shows a summary with either the file name, or count of files chosen for upload. The project and folder that is currently active will be preselected, but you can edit the location for the upload at this point using the two drop downs -- the first for the Project, and second is for folder path within that project. There is a required checkbox for accepting the terms and conditions.

Video Transcoding

Transcoding is a necessary process, but it is not required by the user. It is entirely handled on the backend. Transcoding is specifically necessary for videos due to the requirements of in-browser playback. There is an optional checkbox to have an email after any videos in the upload are completed - meaning after full transcode is ready which is a process that happens after the upload via web interface is complete.

During this process, the portal backend normalizes the formats and prepares the video to ensure accurate playback quality as required by users. Additionally, this process generates a thumbnail and an animated GIF that can be used to quickly preview a snippet of the video in gallery views. The website will indicate the start of transcoding, and completion is marked when the video is fully available for annotation.

File size

This web-based tool works for files under 1GB. Large files, however, can be uploaded using Python tools. Learn more about large file uploads and management.
