ABOUT FATHOMNET EDUCATION
This course content was developed by Dr. Deanna Soper, Assistant Professor of Biology at the University of Dallas, to engage students in exploring animal diversity and identification. While it is possible to use all of the materials over a semester, they have also been designed such that one could use just some of the curricular content. Content has been arranged into sections, called modules. Module 1 is intended to introduce students to the fundamentals of animal diversity and taxonomy. If you teach a general biology course, you could cherry-pick those lessons for use in a more general course. If you plan to ultimately teach students how to identify marine organisms, using this module will set the students up for success in identifying organisms. Module 2 is intended to utilize the FathomNet-developed products, such as FathomVerse. This is a video game that engages students in the task of examining images of organisms from deep-sea video footage and identifying them in a low-stakes, familiar gaming environment. If you have any questions or comments about the course content at any time, please contact Dr. Deanna Soper at dsoper@udallas.edu.
