Users on the portal can control who has access to their data using project privacy settings in addition to user management.
Project Creation
As a new user to Portal, if you haven't been assigned a role in a project, you will need to start one. As the project creator, your user will also be the admin of that project. You will give the project a name, a default avatar, and choose the privacy level.

Project Privacy
There are three privacy levels in the FathomNet Portal:
Public - The project is findable in Search. All users can access media and observations as a Viewer.
Restricted - The project is findable in Search. Users require permission to access media and observations as a Viewer.
Private - Project is not findable, and is not viewable. Users require permission to view the project, access the media, and observations.
Privacy is editable by project admin. Why change privacy? Admin of a project may choose to change the privacy of data after analysis for a variety of reasons. Transitioning to public status is something that can be done from the admin page, but can also be supported by the portal team if blurring data, or hiding specific data is required before it can be public. There is also a way to make only specific frames public via our FathomNet Database export tools.
